Soda-lime-silica glasses typically contain about 75 wt% SiO 2, 15 wt% Na 2O, and 10 wt% CaO. People have manufactured similar glasses since Roman times. The most common kind of glass, which is used to make bottles or window panes, is soda-lime-silica glass. Glass manufacturers make glass by melting ingredients and cooling the melt so quickly that crystals cannot form.
